Adult Neurological Consultations

New consultations can take between 45-60 minutes depending on the complexity of your condition and will involve a comprehensive assessment including a detailed review of your symptoms, medical history, and physical examination. Depending on the case, the doctor may also decide to perform a Nerve Conduction Study and/or EMG to assist in diagnosing the problem. At the end of the consultation, the doctor will explain the likely diagnosis of your presentation along with a plan of investigation(s) and treatment. A detailed report will be sent back to your referring doctor after all investigations have been completed usually after your review appointment.

Headache Clinic

Your initial consultation will involve discussing your headache or migraine presentation and history. It is important that we have a full understanding of your particular headache presentations. After this assessment, we will review our findings with you and provide you with a highly specialised treatment plan; which you will have continued support from our specialised team.

Epilepsy Clinic

Our Epilepsy clinic offers care, information and services needed by those affected by epilepsy, as well as their families. We provide individualised self-management plans and support.

Parkinson’s disease clinic

Parkinson’s disease and tremor are the two most common movement disorders that affect adults. In our specialised clinic we provide patient centred management, advanced therapy options as well as ongoing support for the patient and their families.

Botox (Migraine therapy)

You will need a referral from your GP requesting an assessment for consideration of injection-based therapy. Initially you will be reviewed by Dr Baumann to determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you. An appointment will then be made for you on our Botox Clinic Day which is held once a month.

Vertigo

Dizziness, vertigo and imbalance can have major effects on a person’s quality of life. It is often hard to describe the sensation experienced, which can include dizziness, rocking, tilting or the sensation of falling. It can be difficult to differentiate vertigo from sensations like lightheadedness, disorientation or brain fog. We provide extensive examinations to help diagnose the various causes of vertigo. We also have allied professionals available to assist with vestibular testing as well as balance and physiotherapy.

Nerve Conduction Test

Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG)

A Nerve Conduction Test is used to assess nerve damage. It measures how quickly electrical signals move through your peripheral nerves. This test helps your doctor diagnose the causes of:

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Peripheral Neuropathy
Radiculopathy
Ulnar Neuropathy
Sciatic nerve problems
Arm or leg pain
Numbness or tingling
Weakness or cramping

Please note that if your referral states that only a Nerve Conduction Study and/or EMG is required, the test will be completed, and a comprehensive report will be sent to your GP/ Specialist for review and future management. If a consultation is required with Dr Baumann this must be stated in the referral.

Dr Baumann may ask for additional investigations to be completed and will book you in for a review appointment. If there are further investigations required, then the report will not be sent to your GP/ Specialist until these have been completed so that all investigations are conclusive for the report.

EEG

EEG testing may be requested by Dr Baumann to help diagnose your presentation of epilepsy. An EEG machine is used to measure the electrical activity of the brain, via electrodes applied to your scalp. This procedure is completely painless. EEG can help diagnose a number of conditions.
